mock-up

Finally, the genesis of my project has been achieved. This prematurely born web project can be accessed in its permanent revision and modularity at this address. I am open to all kinds of criticism, since this is going to be a long project.

It looks great. What will be the primary language of the site? Obviously the mockup is in English, but the documents and maps will not be. Will it be multilingual from the start or will translations need to be added later on?

Thank you for your comment! The language issue is always a big problem, but I hope now with the existence of Google Translate it is less a problem. Still, at this moment what I know for sure is that I will have three languages: Russian, Romanian, English. The question is how I will combine them. Obviously I have documents in Russian and Romanian, and I will leave the original documents as such. I will have a basic presentation of my project in all three languages and a short summary in English for most important documents and Russian and Romanian for all the documents.

This looks great! I like that you can zoom in to the map. Will you be able to zoom in further to the newspaper so it is readable? (Right now it is a little small.) I think the idea of three languages is very useful because it opens your website up to many more researchers. Nice site!

Actually from an unknown reason the map decided to agree for a zoom, while the newspaper not. But I think these issues will come as the project ages and is getting wiser. Another issue which bothers me is that I don't know how to leave only "The Neighborlands" and to delete over words from the header. But this is also a temporary thing since this is only a mock-up. Thanks!

Very nice! I'm looking forward to seeing how the site develops. Are you going to add more categories besides maps, documents, and newspapers?

I was thinking about translations, too, as my site will at least have an English and a Hungarian version. All I know about that is other sites that have little flags on the top of their pages to change languages. When I start to look into that, I'll let you know if I find anything interesting.

I don't know about categories but I am certainly going to add some subcategories for the main categories. I have to think about the criteria for adding subcategories: themes, chronological periods, languages etc.

Concerning languages I will highly appreciate your help, and promise to do the same if I'll find something interesting. When it comes to languages in Eastern Europe you know that this is not a simple issue. There were a lot of wars thought only because of languages. So, yes it is hard to figure a perfect model and I don't have the money, which allows the EU to translate its documents in all the languages of the member states.
